Falling for Fall

One of the things I missed the most when I lived in Florida (and believe me I did not miss much) was Fall.  In south Florida the weather stays the same most of the year.  The summer gets a little hotter and the winter gets a little cooler but basically the weather is the same all the time.  That is why so many people from the North go there.

Since I have been back  in Alabama I have been about to freeze to death (literally).  Now I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism (one of the symptoms is being cold), but I have still not been able to get used to the change in the weather here.  If the temp drops below 80, I start hollerin' for Mike to find my fleece wear.  But yesterday the temp dropped suddenly and I am literally freezing.  Of course it is not really freezing outside, but I have been sitting in a lounge chair wrapped up in a quilt.  Can't you just see it?  How ridiculous am I?

But when I look out the window and see the leaves begin to change their colors and the color of the blue, blue sky, I begin to fall in love with Fall again.  The smell of wood burning, the colors, football, all the things that go with fall are amazing.  What's not to love, especially in the south?  Houses begin to reflect the season with orange, red and gold decorations, hay bales, corn stalks and pumpkins in the yards.

Last Sunday night we had our extended family over for big pots of homemade chili.  After supper (that's dinner in the south), we went out back and the kids made smores over the fire bowl and we all sat around the fire and visited.  The only thing missing was my own kids and grandkids.  Oh well!  We really had a good time and there is nothing like a family gathering to make you realize how blessed you are no matter what your circumstances.  Thank you God for family, friends and for Fall.  I'm falling for Fall all over again!!!!!!
